Almost everyone can recognize the iconic palm trees, the Hollywood sign, the glamour, and the sunshine year round of Southern California. Los Angeles is huge, and there’s a lot to cover. So I made a list of must see and photograph locations of iconic sunny Southern California to help you find your way around the City of Angels.
The Griffith Observatory & Griffith Park
The first location is the Griffith Observatory. This location is iconic throughout all of Los Angeles. The unique architecture of this building plus the addition of great views of the Hollywood sign and sweeping views of all of Los Angeles make it a great location for portraits.
Griffith Park is one of the biggest, most easily accessible nature spots in central Los Angeles. Spending time finding spots on trails can be really helpful for outdoor photography and good natural lighting. I like sunset at the bottom of Western Canyon Road. Here you can find some nice lighting where sun shines through the trees.
Downtown Los Angeles: The Broad & Walt Disney Concert Hall
The next location on my list is in downtown Los Angeles. If you head to The Broad Museum as well as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, South Grand Avenue is a fantastic urban place for any photographer. If the Concert Hall is open, take the outdoor stairs up to the Keck Amphitheater. There you’ll find some awesome angles of the unusual building and good lighting in the afternoon. The Broad’s distinctive pattern of architecture is unique as a backdrop for any shoot.
Elysian Park & the Secret Swing
Another spot with great views of downtown LA is Elysian Park. Located right above The Dodgers Stadium Elysian Park has some great hidden gems. There is a secret tree swing in this park that’s always a fun place to check out. My favorite spot in this park to photograph is on Elysian Park Road. The road is lined with huge palm trees and a nice view of downtown LA.
Santa Monica Beach & Pier
The long stretch of beach, under the pier at sunset, the Ferris wheel and the boardwalk at night makes Santa Monica a must see and experience location for anyone visiting Los Angeles. Bring a tripod to get those incredible late sunset and night shots on the left side of the pier facing the Ferris Wheel.
The Beverly Hills Hotel
Although you aren’t allowed to take photos inside the hotel, the driveway into this iconic spot in LA is perfect for that Hollywood Glam shot. There are also a couple other great spots located near the entrance of the hotel lobby as well as near the pool so get around and explore!
Los Angeles is home to a huge diverse world of people, cultures and neighborhoods. There really are endless locations you can go to photograph the iconic Southern California vibe, so get out there and take some photos!
